People's knowledge and beliefs about ways to prevent hemorrhagic fever in the city of Baghdad

Abstract

Background: The history of hemorrhagic fever in Iraq dates back to 1979. The procedures of veterinary departments were ongoing in Iraq, especially in places where ticks that transmit the disease are present. However, when Corona appeared, the spraying and sterilization procedures stopped for a year and a half. This led to an increase in the incidence of tick hemorrhagic fever. And 95 cases of hemorrhagic fever appeared in Iraq at the beginning of the year 2023, according to the statistics of the Iraqi Ministry of Health. According to the report of the World Health Organization, the symptoms of hemorrhagic fever begin with fever, muscle pain, joint pain, bleeding, and sometimes shock due to bleeding.

Objectives: to assessment of people's knowledge about hemorrhagic fever, Knowledge of people's knowledge and beliefs about ways to prevent hemorrhagic fever.

Materials& procedures: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the city of Baghdad for the period from 1/2/2023 to 9/4/2023 for the purpose of assessing people's knowledge and beliefs about ways to prevent hemorrhagic fever in the city of Baghdad.

Results: This study was conducted in the city of Baghdad with the aim of evaluating people's knowledge and beliefs about people about ways to prevent hemorrhagic fever. Most of the participants in the study were within the age group (30_35) and they constituted (30%). (26.6%). From urban areas in Baghdad, most of them were graduates of the institute.

Conclusions: People's knowledge and beliefs about ways to prevent hemorrhagic fever were generally good. Most of the study participants answered that hemorrhagic fever is transmitted through meat and milk and correct information about ways to prevent hemorrhagic fever as (63.3%) They answered the improvement of social conditions. And providing medical and laboratory capabilities to examine patients and their contacts for the purpose of early detection of the disease. And (73.3%) answered that preventive treatment with isoniazid As for their beliefs, they were also correct, as they answered that hemorrhagic fever is not considered a genetic disease.
