Assessment of work- life-balance and employee job satisfaction in oil and gas firms in the Niger delta region of Nigeria

Abstract

The study examined the work- life-balance and Employee job satisfaction in Oil and Gas firms in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were to: identify the effect of managerial support on employee job retention and determine the vsurvey method. Study Area was Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The population for the study was 4410 employees of ten (10) indigenous oil and gas firms in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. The sample size of 254 was determined using the Taro Yamane’s formula for sample size determination. The study used structured questionnaire to obtain data. Research questions of the study were answered using mean score and standard deviation. The hypotheses were tested using single regression. The empirical result showed that managerial support has positive and significant effect on employee job retention in Oil and Gas firms in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria (t – statistics (7.826) > P – value (0.000) and family support has positive and significant effect on employee job punctuality in Oil and Gas firms in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria (t – statistics (48.908) > P – value (0.000). The study recommended that management of Oil and Gas firms in Niger Delta Region of Nigeria should designing of work-life balance plan such as job security, reward system, performance recognition and career growth plans for every job position of employees in the organizations will lead to job satisfaction and enhance the productivity of employees.
