Abstract

Kriva Rijeka is the name for a group of villages located in the Krivaja river valley, along the course from its canyon, Krsevi (geographic coordinates: 44°07′54.13″N, 18°33′22.36″E, altitude 553 m) to the Kamenica locality (geographic coordinates: 44°13′09.65″N, 18°29′33.17″E, altitude 461 m), below the village of Cunista. The term „Kriva Rijeka“ is in unofficial use today, and in documents it appears for the name of the cadastral municipality. This name is very often used by people from the neighboring regions of the municipality of Olovo, and from the municipalities of Kladanj, Vares and Zavidovici, in order to refer in a 'concise' way to this geographical area with several villages. Officially (administratively), there are 12 villages within Kriva Rijeka: Boganovici (registered settlement number: 135453), Bukov Do (135470), Cunista (135496), Glavicno (135534), Kovacici (235623), Krizevici (135640), Metilji (135682), Milankovici (135704), Recica (135801), Solun (135836), Vukotici (135879) and Zunova (135887). However, today there are a large number of settlements that are administratively included in the already mentioned villages. The main villages, as well as the villages that arose next to them, can be found on geographical maps (from the Austro-Hungarian period and military maps). This paper deals with the medieval necropolises in the Kriva Rijeka area, which are a sign of the continuity of life in this area, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
