Assessing Human Brucellosis in Wasit Province: A Study on Diagnostic Techniques and Prevalence, Iraq
Abstract
Brucellosis is a major zoonosis worldwide. is an important zoonosis and a significant cause of reproductive losses in animals. Brucellosis is endemic in Iraq and requires annual screening using modern diagnostic techniques. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of human brucellosis in rural areas in Wasit province using Clinical diagnosis of brucellosis is not easily achieved. Therefore, laboratory testing is very important for the correct identification of the disease in humans. For these reasons, serological testing is usually preferred. Brucellosis serology has made significant advances in the past few decades, and new tests that are very sensitive and specific are available. This study included 60 serum samples collected from humans (doctors - farmers) and distributed according to gender by use brucella rapid test. The percentage of positive samples showed 83% of males and 25% of females. The percentage decreased when using the rapid antibody test. For the period between February - September 2024 in the cities of Azizia and Al-Suwaira. The rose bengel test and the antibody test were performed on these samples.
