Analysis of the Construction of Wahbah Az-Zuhaili's Thought on the Concept of Time in at-Tafsir Al-Munir
Abstract
Time is an important topic in the Qur'an, which demands optimal utilization by mankind. Allah Subhānahu Wata'ālā emphasizes the importance of time by swearing to use various terms of time in the Qur'an. This study uses At-Tafsir Al-Munir by Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, a contemporary tafsir that combines the methods of ma'tsur and ra'yi narration, to answer two main questions: (1) How is Wahbah Az-Zuhaili's interpretation of the verses on time based on the terms Ad-Dahr, Al-Ajal, As-Saa'ah, Al-Waqt, and Hiin? (2) How relevant is the interpretation in the context of human life? Through literature review and qualitative analysis, it was found that Wahbah Az-Zuhaili interpreted Ad-Dahr as an infinite age, Al-Ajal as the final limit of the life of beings, Al-Waqt as the time of practice, As-Saa'ah as the end of the world or the Day of Judgment, and Al-Hiin as the number of human lifespans. Its relevance suggests that time existed before the creation of creatures, all creatures have an end limit to life that can be long or short.
