Abstract

Strategic supplier management plays a pivotal role in optimizing global project delivery, particularly in the energy and oil & gas industries, where complex supply chains and operational risks demand precise coordination. This review explores key approaches to effective supplier management, emphasizing its importance in driving efficiency, mitigating risks, and enhancing project outcomes. In the energy and oil & gas sectors, supplier management focuses on fostering strong partnerships, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and promoting innovation through collaborative efforts. Central to this strategy is the integration of technology and data analytics, which enable real-time tracking of supplier performance, cost efficiency, and risk management. The adoption of digital platforms facilitates transparent communication between suppliers and project stakeholders, ensuring that project timelines, quality standards, and cost objectives are met. Furthermore, risk mitigation strategies, such as diversifying supplier networks and implementing contingency planning, are essential for minimizing disruptions in the global supply chain. Strategic supplier management also contributes to sustainability goals by encouraging suppliers to adhere to environmental standards and adopt green practices. By engaging suppliers in sustainability initiatives, energy and oil & gas companies can align their operations with global environmental objectives, contributing to the industry's long-term sustainability. This review highlights the importance of collaboration between procurement teams, project managers, and suppliers in achieving optimal project delivery. A focus on relationship-building and continuous improvement ensures that suppliers not only meet contractual obligations but also contribute to the overall success of global projects. Case studies from major energy and oil & gas companies demonstrate that strategic supplier management leads to improved cost control, enhanced project timelines, and minimized risks. In conclusion, strategic supplier management is a critical component for optimizing global project delivery in the energy and oil & gas sectors, providing competitive advantage, risk resilience, and alignment with sustainability goals.
