MES Integration with ERP: Streamlining Semiconductor Operations
Abstract
The efficiency of a semiconductor manufacturing company greatly relies on how well synchronized the PLM system integrates with MES, ERP, and CAD systems. PLM holds the design data, MES is responsible for executing manufactured products at the shop floor, ERP controls the business's forecasting and planning, and CAD delivers the complete specification of the product. When these systems are executed individually, the result is a compounded data problem of inefficiency, discrepancies, severe delays, and elevated costs. This paper attempts to identify methods by which these systems can be seamlessly integrated to allow for real time data exchange for the purpose of workflow optimization and improved decision processes with review of two cases studies. Transformation of engineering BOMs into manufacturing BOMs, as well as the MES execution synchronization with ERP planning, improves traceability, reduces cycle time, and increases production flexibility. AI, digital twins, and cloud-based architecture can increase the pace of integration.
