Quality of Life among Adolescent Cerebral Palsy Patients in Jalgaon
Abstract
Aim: To assess quality of life among adolescent cerebral palsy patients in Jalgaon.
Background: Cerebral palsy is an umbrella term covering a group of non-progressive, but often changing motor impairment syndromes that may or may not involve sensory deficits, that are caused by a non-progressive defect, lesion, or anomaly of developing brain. During adolescence, children become more interested in school activities and community life opportunities. Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of conditions that are characterized by chronic disorder of movement or postures; it is cortical in origin, manifests itself early in life, and is not the outcome of progressive disease, which is collectively defined as “developmental disabilities”. CP is a syndrome with a combination of motor, sensory, intellectual, language, perceptual, balance and behavioral problems
Methodology: To conduct this observational study, subjects will be taken according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Prior to starting the study, the procedure must be explained and consent form will be taken from the subjects, survey-based investigation was carried out with the aid of GMFCS scale Cerebral Palsy Quality of life Questionnaire for Adolescents (CP QOL-TEENS).
Results: Total 23 sample were recorded according to inclusion and exclusion criteria, 16 patients were male and 7 were female. Out of 23 patients were 69.57% male and 30.43% female who had cerebral palsy. In this study, result show age wise distribution mean value is 14.09 and SD is 2.04. In this study level 1 found 9 patient 39.13%, level 2 found 5 patient 21.74%, level 3&4 patient not found, level 5 found 9 patients 39.13%. Overall quality of life score in cerebral palsy patients is 0% on below 50% phase and 100% on above. Overall quality of life in cerebral palsy patients shows mean value 62.61 and SD value 6.72 in this study.
Conclusion: The study concludes that the quality of life among adolescent cerebral palsy found 0% on below 50% phase and 100% on above 50% phase, Overall quality of life mean is 62.61 and SD 6.72 in this study.
