Iran’s Position on the Political Situation in Iraq (2003–2017)
Abstract
The research is divided into three main axes covering the most important stages that iraq went through between 2003-2017.the first axis addresses Iran’s position on the American invasion of Iraq, the formation of the Iraqi interim government headed by Ayad Allawi in 2004, and the 2005 Iraqi constitution. the stage that witnessed the formation of the new political system of the Iraqi state. The second axis examines Iran’s position on the sectarian violence that swept Iraq, and its dealings with successive Iraqi governments during the period 2006-2010, especially the government of Nouri al-Maliki, which played a pivotal role in that stage, and it’s position on the security agreement between Iraq and the United States in 2008 and the parliamentary elections in 2010. The third axis focuses on Iran’s position the emergence of issi in 2011, and the consequences this is based on the issuance of the fatwa of sufficient jihad by the Supreme religious authority, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, and establishment of the popular Mobilization forces, an event that reshaped security relations between the two countries and contributed to consolidating Iranian-Iraqi relations in an unprecedented manner.
