Master Teachers’ Instructional Leadership. Teachers’ Pedagogical Skills, and Students’ Learning Engagement
Abstract
This study explored the dimensions of educational effectiveness within public schools by assessing master teachers’ instructional leadership, teachers’ pedagogical skills, and students’ learning engagement. Specifically, it examined the relationships among these variables and determined their predictive influence on student engagement. The study employed a quantitative research design, utilizing descriptive and correlational analyses. Data were collected through survey questionnaires administered to master teachers, teachers, and students in public schools. Pearson’s correlation and regression analyses were conducted to determine the relationships among instructional leadership, pedagogical skills, and student engagement. Findings indicate that master teachers exhibit a "Very High" level of instructional leadership, particularly in coaching, curriculum development, professional development facilitation, and data-driven decision-making. Teachers also demonstrate a "Very High" level of pedagogical skills, especially in classroom management and assessment strategies. Students show high engagement across cognitive, emotional, and behavioral dimensions. Correlation analysis reveals strong positive relationships between instructional leadership and pedagogical skills (r = .736, p < .01), and moderate correlations between instructional leadership and student engagement (r = .511, p < .01), as well as between pedagogical skills and student engagement (r = .678, p < .01). Regression analysis indicates that professional development facilitation and adaptability to student needs significantly predict student learning engagement. The findings highlight the critical role of instructional leadership in enhancing pedagogical effectiveness and student engagement. Professional development, mentoring, and targeted instructional strategies are key to fostering a more engaging learning environment. Based on these insights, the AILEEn Action Plan was developed to enhance instructional leadership, improve teaching effectiveness, and promote student learning engagement.
