Abstract

Parenting a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) involves unique challenges that require adaptive strategies and effective interventions. This study explored parenting styles, stress management, and intervention strategies among parents of children with ASD at Biñan Elementary School. Using a descriptive-correlational design, data were collected from 60 randomly selected parents through a validated and reliable survey instrument. Results revealed a moderate practice of permissive and authoritative parenting styles (WM = 3.17), with a stronger inclination toward permissive approaches. Stress management strategies were highly practiced (WM = 3.53), and intervention strategies—such as parent education, behavioral management, and sensory integration—were moderately supported (WM = 3.20). Permissive parenting style showed a significant correlation with stress management (r = 0.367, p = 0.000) and high correlations with all intervention strategies. In contrast, authoritative parenting showed moderate to low correlations with intervention strategies and a non-significant relationship with stress management. Stress management methods were significantly, though modestly, linked to the use of intervention strategies, emphasizing their role in supporting children with ASD. These findings highlight the need for targeted training programs that strengthen parenting styles, enhance coping mechanisms, and optimize intervention strategies for parents of children with ASD.
