Abstract

This study examines the vital role played by the media in the twelve-day war between Iran and Israel, which broke out on June 13, 2025 and ended on June 24 of the same year after a wide escalation that included mutual air and missile strikes. This confrontation represents a prominent model for understanding the relationship between media, politics and war in the Middle East
Initially, Israel relied on carrying out intensive attacks targeting military and nuclear facilities inside Iranian territory, resulting in the deaths of over 900 people, including civilians, women, and children, according to field reports. Iran responded by launching more than 500 ballistic missiles and drones towards the Israeli heartland, declaring that the response was within its legitimate right to self-defense. Iranian media provided comprehensive and insightful coverage that focused on exposing Israeli aggression and revealing Western bias in news reporting. Iranian media discourse also emphasized that the conflict was not merely military, but a battle for sovereignty and independence against Zionist occupation and hegemony. In contrast, Israeli and Western media relied on a misleading narrative that focused on justifying the aggression and portraying it as a preemptive defense against a potential nuclear threat. The study showed that Iranian media was able to break the Western narrative monopoly by broadcasting information from reliable field sources. And conveying the true narrative to global public opinion, based on national professionalism and ethical principles, as experience has shown that resistance media can be a strategic defensive tool complementing military deterrence. The study concludes that the media played a fundamental role in the Twelve-Day War, and that conscious and objective coverage was a crucial element in countering disinformation and reinforcing the concepts of justice and national sovereignty during wartime.
