Abstract

Stachys annua subsp. cilicica is an endemic plant species naturally distributed in Bilecik, Turkey. In this study, the volatile aroma components of this taxon were analyzed using Headspace Solid-Phase Microextraction (HS-SPME) combined with Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 37 volatile compounds were identified. The major constituents were determined as β-pinene (11.49%), α-pinene (10.44%), benzaldehyde (9.55%), and germacrene-D (8.96%). These components are considered responsible for the characteristic aroma and potential biological activities of the plant. When grouped by chemical class, monoterpene hydrocarbons and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons were found to be the dominant groups. The results highlight the phytochemical richness of S. annua subsp. cilicica and its potential value in fields such as pharmacology, aromatherapy, and natural product research.
