Abstract

Colleges need to assess whether the skills, knowledge, and attitudes graduates acquire through education are appropriate for performing well in employment. As an institution of higher learning, the performance of the Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology is measured according the performance of its graduates in the labor market. This descriptive-correlation study explored the significant relationship between the graduates’ competencies and their employment conditions. The study employed Graduates’ Competencies Assessment Tool (GCAT) and Employment Condition Assessment Questionnaire (ECAQ) in gathering data. A total of 284 graduates participated in the study as respondents. Mean, standard deviations, t-test, F-test and Chi-square tool were computed to answer the research objectives. Results showed that the NMSCST graduates possessed high level of development of competencies. The graduates landed regular or permanent jobs within two years after graduation. The graduates’ employment conditions vary according to the program they graduated from and the year of their graduation. The study advances the idea that the school has supplied competent labor force needs in the locality. It reaffirms previous studies that highly developed graduates’ competence is a good indicator of better employment conditions.
