Abstract

A laboratory experiment was conducted in the laboratories of the Biology Department / College of Science / Mosul University to show the effect of salicylic acid at concentrations (0,15,25) ppm on the germination and growth of two cultivars of fenugreek growing under the influence of water stress by PEG-6000 and at concentrations (0,10,20)g/L. The results showed the superiority of plants treated with salicylic acid in several characteristics including germination percentage, plumule length, radical length, plumule and radical dry weights, and vitality index, compared with untreated plants. However, our results found a significant decrease in the above traits when plants were exposed to water stress. The percentage of decrease became higher with the increase in the concentration of PEG, compared with plants not exposed to water stress.
