Proposal for a risk stratification technique: using the traffic light system of entomological variables for Dengue surveillance
Abstract
Entomological risk stratification allows understanding the relative abundance of vector populations, as well as the risk they pose of causing disease. The objective of the present study was to propose a technique to stratify risk through the traffic light system of entomological variables used by the Aedes aegypti and Ae. albopictus Surveillance and Control Program of Cuba. An observational, descriptive, longitudinal study was conducted considering seven entomological indicators in a Health Area of Camagüey province during 2023. The results of its application allowed identifying city blocks with different risk levels between climatic seasons (rainy and less rainy) as well as annually. The results addressed the need to integrate entomological indicators in evaluating fieldwork effectiveness to strongly impact the reduction of vector/disease risk and better direct the limited available resources.
