Abstract

Translation plays a pivotal role in bridging languages, cultures, and fields of knowledge. Its importance is particularly evident in the scientific field, where accuracy, consistency, and contextual understanding are essential. Scientific translation goes beyond simply converting words; it requires a deep understanding of scientific content and specialized terminology, as well as the ability to communicate complex ideas. This study examines the translation experience of undergraduate students at Jadara University, focusing on the challenges they face in applying the principle of dynamic equivalence, which emphasizes conveying meaning and impact rather than just words. Through questionnaires, interviews, and short tests, students' approaches varied, with more proficient students tending to adopt contextual rather than literal translation. The study also highlights the gap between theory and practice in scientific translation education and proposes the integration of modern tools, such as terminological databases and validated software, to enhance students' practical skills. The findings underscore the necessity of incorporating more hands-on translation practice into the curriculum to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Additionally, increased exposure to authentic scientific texts can help students develop a more intuitive grasp of terminology and context. The study ultimately calls for a more dynamic and tool-supported approach to teaching scientific translation at the undergraduate level.
