Problems and Obstacles in Scientific Research in the Arab World from the Perspective of Researchers Themselves: A Field Study
Abstract
The present study examines the challenges and obstacles facing scientific research in the Arab world from the perspective of researchers themselves. The study sample consisted of a number of researchers from various countries in the Arab world, holding doctoral, master’s or bachelor’s degrees and possessing varying levels of experience in terms of both quality and quantity. They participated in an online questionnaire comprising 12 statements —compiled and formulated from previous related literature—distributed equally between general and specific conditions. Given the importance of scientific research as a fundamental pillar of societal well-being, social and economic progress can be achieved in the Arab region with an active contribution to the development of the entire world, despite the many challenges it faces. Definitely, this necessitates cooperation and integration among various sectors and increased support of all kinds. The study recommends increasing investment in research through adequate and properly regulated funding from government or private sectors, thereby helping to provide the necessary financial and technical resources and improve the environment to motivate experts, scientists and those interested to work effectively. Equipping laboratories with the necessary modern facilities, tools and equipment, and ensuring their full dedication to scientific work by alleviating the heavy teaching and administrative burdens on their shoulders must be taken into consideration. In conclusion, the researchers look forward to improving the current state of scientific research in the Arab world and envisioning a better future that promotes innovation and progress in the region as a whole.
