Abstract
This paper is an ethical evaluation of Sogidi as a goddess in Awe town of Oyo State of Nigeria and its implication for Christian ministry. The worship of the goddess was examined along with the ethics and ethos surrounding it. The essence was to establish ethically the similarities and differences between the belief of the adherents of this religion and Christianity. The research is a qualitative one, using historical approach. The people of Awe town of Oyo State of Nigeria where the goddess is domiciled form the population of the study. Five (5) key figures familiar with the culture and also custodians of the history of the land were purposively sampled and interviewed. The instrument of the study is a structured interview containing fourteen (14) items. The findings revealed that Sogidi belonged to the class of lesser spirit which cared and protected her own. She had a place of worship and had a fearful aura around her. She had a healing power on children. She was annoyed and completely abandoned her worshipper. The goddess does not have answer to “after death” and the adherent are not guaranteed of what happens after here. These positions were contrasted with the God of the Christians and found to be deficient. It was concluded that God has supreme power and has the final say about life and death.
